From the religious attractions of the island of Tenerife worth noting the Basilica Candelaria, where the wooden sculpture of the Black-faced Virgin Candelaria, sacred of all islanders, is kept.
On the south-east coast of Tenerife stands the ancient city of Candelaria, the religious capital of the Canary archipelago. The beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria (Basilica de Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria) rises above the picturesque seashore in this city.
The Basilica of Candelaria was the first church in the Canaries to be consecrated in honor of the Virgin Mary. Here there is a sacred relic, a wooden figure of the Black-faced Virgin Candelaria. The church forms an architectural ensemble with the statue's crypt (sanctuary) and the Dominican monastery. In front of the basilica, in Patrona de Canarias square, there are bronze sculptures of the nine kings of the island.
