The Phuket Island is located in the western part of Thailand in the Andaman Sea 860 km south-southwest of Bangkok. The northern tip of Phuket is separated from the mainland by a narrow, shallow strait with a bridge over it. The most popular sailing area is located to east of Phuket - Pang Nga Bay. The northern part of the bay is shallow with muddy water due to the inflowing rivers. The southern part is deeper with crystal clear blue water.
On Phuket yacht marinas are located on its east coast. On the northeast side of Phuket is Yacht Haven Marina, where most yacht charter company has thay base.
Phuket has an international airport which has regular and charter flights from many countries. However sometimes it makes sense to fly to Bangkok especially if you have not been there and spend a few days sightseeing and then take a local flight to Phuket.
