Tarutao Island (Ko Tarutao) is 4 miles north of the Malaysian island of Langkawi. Anchorages are located on all sides of the island. This allows yachts to find shelter from waves and winds of all directions.
1 - Anchorage in Talo Wao Bay (AO Nalo Wao) is located in the middle of the east coast of Tarutao Island. The anchor is thrown at a depth of 7-10 meters near the long pier near the rock. At the pier you can refuel with fresh water. There is a ranger station on the hill not far from here. There is a road leading north and south. You can rent a bicycle here. Beware of the uncharted rock in the inner channel north of this anchorage.
5 - Anchorage in Talo Malaka Bay (AO Talo Malaka) is 57 miles from the southern tip of Lanta Island. The anchor is thrown southwest of the rock marked with the navigation sign at a depth of 6-10 meters on the sandy bottom. There are also several buoys belonging to the Tarutao Marine National Park which a yacht can moored.
At the entrance to the narrow mangrove cove is a concrete pier belonging to Tarutao National Park headquarters. The narrow mangrove bay is accessible by dinghy several kilometers into the island leading to Crocodile Cave. There is a fee of 500 baht per person to get ashore. On the shore there are small bamboo bungalows, store, restaurant, tourist center, communication office, toilets. From here begins a road 11 km to Talo Wao and then 8 km to Talo Udung. The road was built in 1937.
