The small Greece island of Kastos is located 10 miles south-east of the island of Lefkas in the so-called "Inner Sea," which is surrounded by the islands of Lefkas, Ithaki, Kefalonia and Zakynthos on the west and the Greece mainland on the east. Together with these larger islands and the smaller ones, Meganisi five miles to the north-west and Kalamos just a mile to the north-west, Kastos is a popular overnight stop for yachts cruising of the waters area between the Lefkas Channel and Patras Bay.
Kastos is the smallest inhabited Greece island of the Ionian Sea. The inhabitants of the island are engaged in fishing and agriculture (growing grains and grapes), as well as wine production. An important source of income for the local population is tourism.
On the south-east side of Kastos island there is only one settlement, which has a small harbor offering good shelter from the winds of most directions. The harbor has space for only 12-15 yachts and in high season it is often full as early as mid-day.
Aside from yachtsmen, there are few other visitors to the village, although there is a lot of new construction, showing that Kastos is growing in popularity among tourists.
The best place to rent a charter yacht for visiting Kastos is Lefkas, although there are several charter yachts for rent in Preveza. If you intend to cruise the Ionian Sea for two weeks or more, Corfu is a good place to rent a yacht.
