Titou Gorge is a small gorge with a small waterfall (in Creole titou means "neck"), one of the most unique places in Dominica. The gorge is located on the western border of the Morne-Trois-Piton National Park. An episode of the Hollywood blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean" was filmed in this gorge.
The Titou Gorge trip is a short swim from the foot of the waterfall through a series of natural "rooms and ponds" formed by high rocky walls topped with intertwined trees. The undulating walls of this deep, narrow gorge were formed when the molten lava cooled and split.
The swim is short, only about five minutes, and the light under the canopy, seeping down the mountainside into the gorge is impressive. The hot spring runs down a short wall just outside the entrance to the gorge, which is lovely after the cool waters of the waterfall!
