Sal Island

Sal (port. Sal, "salt") is the flattest of the Cape Verde islands. The closest inhabited islands are Boa Vista, 24 miles to the north, and San Nicolau, 60 miles to the west.

On average, 350 days a year are sunny on the island. Although clouds cover the sky quite often, this does not happen for long and they dissipate. The prevailing wind direction is north-easterly. The rainy season is considered the period from August to middle of October, although rainfall is rare at this time as well.

The most suitable anchorages for yachts are it Palmeira Bay on the west of the island and Porto de Pedro Lume on the east coast.
