Boa Vista (it means "beautiful view") is the third largest island in Cape Verde. The nearest inhabited islands are Sal, 24 miles to the north, and Mayu, 42 miles to the south. Boa Vista is the least populated of Cape Verde's larger islands.
The capital, Sal Rey, is the island's main resort and one of two anchorages for yachts on the west (leeward) coast.
The island is large, deserted and flat, famous for its sandy beaches, which are 55 km long. On the island among the sand dunes there are oases with date palms.
