Yacht anchorage in Porto do Maio on Maio Island

Porto do Maio (Vila do Maio, Porto Inglez) is located on south-western (leeward of the dominant north-eastern trade winds) coast of Maio Island. It is the capital of the island.

Yachts anchor at a depth of 5-10 meters east of the breakwater. The bottom is sandy. Holding is good. The anchorage is exposed to the southern waves and at times there can be quite large swells, in which it can be impossible to get ashore by the dinghy. Good restaurants and a few small stores in the town.
