Sao Vicente Island

Sao Vicente is the second most populous island in Cape Verde. The old name is Porto Grande. The island is 24 km long and 16 km wide. The nearest islands are Santo Antao, seven miles to the north-west, and Santa Luzia, 4.5 miles to the south-east. The island is of volcanic origin.

The island has the largest port in the Cape Verde islands, Mindelu, which has the yacht marina only one on Cape Verde Islands. Yachts can be anchored only in two bays: Baia Porto Grande and Baia de Sao Pedro.

Mindelu, the main city of the island, is famous for its carnivals.
