Tarrafal de Sao Nicolau is the largest town on the west coast of Sao Nicolau Island.
Yacht anchorage on their own anchors at a depth of 5-12 meters. The bottom is sandy. Holding is good. There are buoys, but they are private. The depths allow the yacht to approach the piers, but they are used by commercial vessels, so you are likely to be driven away. With north-east dominating winds, there are no waves in the bay, but there are strong gusts of wind from the mountains.
There are several minimarkets with a very limited selection of groceries. It is possible to fill up with water. Locals offer their services in terms of tours, fishing, and watching the dinghies on the shore. There are cases of petty theft.
