The commercial port of Marina di Carrara is located approximately five miles south-east of La Spezia Bay and two miles east of the shallow estuary of Magra River (Bocca di Magra River).
At the northern end of the harbor there is a small 190-berth marina, Club Nautico di Carrara, which accepts yachts. The marina has 190 berths for yachts up to 30 meters in length on the water. Depths on the pontoons are from 3.5 to 5.5 meters. There is a small yacht repair yard with a travel lift 150 tons. Engine and yacht electrics and electronics can be repaired. There is a sailing workshop.
As the name says, the port was built and is used to transport the highly valuable Carrara marble quarried in remote areas. Generations of masons and sculptors have used Carrara marble since Roman times (the Pantheon and Trajan's Column in Rome are made of it). Sculpture of David by the world famous Michelangelo was also made of Carrara marble.
