Giglio Island

Giglio is a mountainous island located at 28 miles south-east of Elba and only eight miles from the Argentario peninsula on the Italian mainland. Formed almost entirely of granite, it was an important source of this building material from Roman times until the twentieth century, and many of Rome's most famous basilicas are built in part from Giglio granite. There is one small harbor, Porto Giglio, on the east side of the island. There is a fine old settlement protected from piracy, Castello Giglio, on the highest point.

The island of Giglio is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. It is one of the three islands of the archipelago where you can arrive by yacht.
