Karpathos Island

Karpathos is one of the largest islands of the Dodecanese. It is located in the south of the archipelago. The capital, Pigadia (the official name is Karpathos City) is located on the south-east side of the island. It is the main harbor of the island.

Karpathos is a long, narrow island stretching from north to south for more than thirty miles. The coastline is smooth and there are almost no natural bays. There are only two harbors on the island where yachts can be moored to the pier and a couple of anchorages. There is only one good shelter, Tristomo Bay in the northern part of the island.

Karpathos is quite remote from the popular tourist spots. It is not often visited by yachts, but among wind and kite surfers the island is very popular. The main surfing spot is in the south of the island.

Karpathos, like many islands in the Aegean Sea, has a rich history and is interesting to explore the traditions of Greek life on the islands, which can be seen here in the architecture, in the dress and lifestyle.
