Amorgos is the easternmost island of the Cyclades. It stretches from south-west to north-east for seventeen nautical miles. The width of the island does not exceed three and a half miles. The nearest large islands to Amorgos are Naxos (15 miles), Ios (17 miles), Santorin (27 miles), Astepaly (21 miles).
The south-east coast of the island is smooth and rocky, no suitable sites for anchoring yachts. The north-west coast of Amorgos is more rugged, but there are only few good shelters for yachts from the prevailing winds. The main ferry port of the island is Katapola. The capital of the island, Chora, is located two kilometers from the port in the mountains. Although attractions are scattered all over the island, the main ones are concentrated around Chora. The second ferry port, Egila, is also on the north-west coast.
The tourism industry in Amorgos is less developed than on most islands of the Cyclades. Yachts visit primarily Katapola, although there are several pleasant and safe anchorages on the island.
The closest islands to Amorgos where you can rent a charter yacht are Paros and Santorin.
