Sukosan is a charming town in Croatia and a very popular vacation spot in the Zadar region during the summer months. This coastal town attracts visitors with its picturesque old town, where historical buildings and churches are hidden. There are good restaurants and small cafes on the city promenade.
Sukosan has numerous beautiful beaches. In addition, the surroundings of Sukosan are very interesting and, due to its proximity to Zadar and the 5 national parks, have a lot to offer.
On an artificially created islet by the bay of Zlatna luka are the ruins of the former residence Zadar archbishop of the 15th century. This outstanding example of 15th century village architecture has been almost destroyed over the centuries.
Among the most important monuments of the resort is also the church of Sveti Kasija. With him as the patron of the town is also associated with Sukosan, or Santus Casanus, first mentioned in documents of the 13th century. Also associated with him is the folk festival of Sveti Kasija with a presentation of folk traditions of the 13th century.
Old Town
The dreamy little old town of Sukoshan is one of the best attractions in the port city.
Walking through the old center of the city you will find small hidden streets, romantic squares, typical Dalmatian stone houses and numerous churches.
Especially beautiful is the Church of Sveti Kasian, decorated with elements of the Romantic and Baroque periods. Also interesting is the small Church of the Merciful Madonna of 1650, which was dedicated to the Virgin Mary in gratitude for saving people from the plague.
Another interesting sight is the city gate Gornja Vrata of 1470, which was part of the former fortification and today is an important testimony to the long history of Sukosan.
Waterfront
The picturesque promenade is another reason why Sukosan is so beautiful and popular. Together with the old town it forms the tourist center of the village and invites to long walks along the coast.
In high season there are also several beautifully decorated kiosks selling homemade souvenirs and Croatian delicacies. There are good restaurants and cozy cafes along the promenade where you can taste Dalmatian cuisine in a unique atmosphere.
Archbishop's summer residence palace
A very interesting place in Sukosan is the Archbishop's Summer Residence Palace from the 15th century. It was built on an island in the middle of the bay.
Today, only ruins rise from the turquoise sea, giving the historical site a special flavor. You can visit this former residence by dinghy or kayak. Interesting is the coat of arms of Archbishop Zmajevic, which is considered to be an example of outstanding heraldic art in Croatia.
Marina Dalmacia
Marina Dalmacia is another attraction worth visiting in Sukosan. It is one of the largest marinas in all of Croatia.

The beautiful beaches of Sucosan make this resort a really popular place to swim. There are countless beautiful coves along the coastline of about 5 kilometers, perfect for relaxing by the sea. Most of the beaches are small pebbles, but some are even sandy beaches with beautiful sea colors and perfect cleanliness.
