Nueva Gerona is a small and quiet town in Cuba, capital of the Caribbean Juventud Island. It is located on the northern coast of the island.

The city was founded by Americans in 1830 as a colony of Queen Amalia (Reina Amalia). Nueva Gerona, being small and still little visited, does not have a large tourist infrastructure, but it has several resorts in the most popular beach areas and many private homes that are very comfortable and accessible at price, it also offers options for outdoor activities.

Old stone houses and the city's original thick columns stretch along Calle Real, also known as Calle 39, which is the commercial and cultural center of the city.

Museum of Natural Sciences (Museo de Historia Natural de Nueva Gerona) is located in Nueva Gerona on calle del hotel Colony, in front of the peculiar tower of the Historical Archive (Torre del Archivo Historico). It was officially opening was in February 1971 at the headquarters of the Academy of Sciences of Isla de Pinos (Academia de Ciencias de Isla de Pinos).

The main sciences dealt with in the museum are zoology, botany, geology and astronomy. There are also educational events, competitions, seminars, conferences, and other activities. Without a doubt, this place in Isla de la Juventud is a must-see for science lovers.

Museo Finca el Abra is located about 3 km south-west of Nueva Gerona, Isla de la Juventud. The old manor house is worth visiting not only because of the museum, but also to see its beautiful surroundings. The museum has been open since January 28, 1944.

The history of the museum tells us that in 1870 young Jose Martin spent nine weeks in exile on this ranch before being deported to Spain. The descendants of the man who welcomed the Cuban hero, Giuseppe Girondella, still live in the neighboring house. The museum presents the room where Jose Marti lived during his stay there, it contains objects related to the life of the patriot: personal belongings, furniture, documents ... We will also be able to see a book signed by Fermin Valdes Dominguez and a copy of the link Marti used in the Canteras de San Lazaro forge. Next to the museum there is an old marble quarry and a hill from which we can enjoy a spectacular view of the city.
