Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands. Cuba is between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The island is located 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, USA, between the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas.
There are two main island groups along the southern coast of Cuba that are sailing areas for travelers on rented yachts. These are, firstly, the Archpielago de Los Canarreos west of the main charter boat base in Cienfuegos, and secondly, the Archpielago de Los Jardines de La Reina southeast of Cienfuegos.
The main and rather unpleasant feature of yachting in these waters is the shallow water and coral reefs near the islands. In the shallow waters between the islands there are quite strong tidal currents. In addition, the yacht service infrastructure is poorly developed. However, all this more than compensates for the magnificent wildlife of the islands and the rich underwater world.
There are very few bareboat charter companies based in Cuba. All of them are based on the Caribbean coast in Cienfuegos. Luxury yachts with crew and small motor yachts for sea fishing can be rented on the Atlantic coast of Cuba in Havana and Varadero.
