San Remo is located on Italy's Ligurian coast on the western side of Genoa Gulf, just over 10 miles east of the French border.
San Remo's development as an international resort began in the second half of the 19th century, and for modern tourists it is known as a casino and music festival town, and more recently for Europe's longest new 24-kilometer bicycle road, built on the site of an old railroad, which runs along the entire coast to San Lorenzo al Mare between seaside pines and beaches.
San Remo is the first major port encountered by yachts traveling to east from France to Italian waters. Yachts in San Remo can be moored in the busy commercial harbor of Porto Pablico or in the much larger and more well-appointed Portosole marina .
Today the city is a lively, although slightly faded, resort with a vibrant cultural life, an elegant old casino, a huge flower market and spectacular mountain scenery just a few kilometers from the mainland.
