The city of Trieste is located on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Trieste on the northern Adriatic, three miles from the Slovenian border.
Trieste is a city with a complex history of over two thousand years, many well restored and preserved sights and museums that can be explored for many days.
Today Trieste is an important commercial center with a large container port, oil terminal, shipbuilding and steelworks, and a significant financial services sector.
Trieste's 19th century harbor, Porto Vecchio, and its associated areas have been seriously reconstructed in recent years. Most of Trieste's yachting marinas are located here, as well as the small San Giusto and the large Bacino Sacchetta. Another small marina is located on the northern outskirts of the city in the suburb of Barcola. Shelter for yachts is good in much parts of the old harbor, although Trieste is not the place for your boat to winter here when the strong Bora winds can reach 45-50 knots or more.
