Grado

Grado is a small town lying on a low sandy island at the estuary of the Isonzo River between Venice and Trieste. The river Isonzo, flowing into the sea, divides into many branches and forms picturesque lagoons.

A narrow dredged fairway leads from the sea to the island of Grado and ending in two pools (shaped like an inverted Y), juts into the city. This channel and the basins form an inner harbor that is used by fishing boats and some yachts. There are various places where it is possible to moor.

The sea in the northern Adriatic, and in particular in the Grado area, is shallow and the shores are low. When traveling here on a yacht, the skipper should be particularly attentive to navigation.

Today Grado is a popular resort town with a well-preserved historical center. Near the town there is a nature reserve Valle Cavanata, where you can go on a sightseeing tour around the lagoon with a dozen of tiny picturesque islets. Grado has one of the best beaches in Italy.
