Ios is an island in the southern part of the Aegean Sea in Greece. It belongs to the Cyclades archipelago. The island is located about halfway between the islands of Naxos and Santorini. The island stretches from north-west to south-east for nine and a half miles, Ios is about 4 miles wide. The distance from Alimos Marina in Athens is just over 100 nautical miles.
Ios is a party island with an active nightlife and lots of tourists in high season and quiet and pleasant outside the season. So the attitude of yachtsmen to it is ambiguous.
The main and only port is located on the north-west of the island. Only there yachts can be moored to pier. In addition, there are several anchorages well sheltered from the prevailing winds on the south and south-west coasts of the island.
