Curieuse Island is the main part of Curieuse Marine National Park. It is located one mile north-east of Praslin Island. In addition to Curieuse Island the Curieuse Marine National Park includes the strait between Praslin and Curieuse Islands and part of the northern coast of Praslin Island.
The National Marine Park is strictly guarded by rangers. Most yachtsmen who are visiting Curieuse Island prefer to leave their yachts at Baie Laraie (also known as Curieuse Bay) on the east side of the island. While snorkeling on the coral reefs along the shores of this bay you can see spiny parrotfish reaching up to 1.2 meters long.
There are many giant tortoises on the shore of the bay near the ranger's headquarters.
One of the hiking trails on the island is the trail from Baie Laraie to Anse Jose Beach passes through a dense forest of mangroves.
Along the way you will see the ruins of a former leper colony which now blends well into the landscape.
The Doctor's House in Anse Jose, an interesting building of Creole colonial architecture has been converted into a good museum near the beach.
On Anse Jose Beach sea turtles lay their eggs.
