The Desertas Islands (Ilhas Desertas) are a small Portuguese archipelago located at 18 miles to south-east of the eastern tip of Madeira Island. The Desertas Islands are a chain of three long, narrow islands stretching 12 miles from north to south. The islands are Ilheu Chao, Deserta Grande and Bugio.
The islands are a nature reserve, so you must obtain a special permit to access there. Base rangers Reserve is located on Deserta Grande island. Next to them is the only suitable anchorage.
