Selvagens (Ilhas Selvagens, "wild islands") is a small uninhabited archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean between Madeira and the Canary Islands. The archipelago consists of three islands: Large Selvagem, Small Selvagem and Fora, as well as a few very small islands.
The Selvagens Islands are part of the Macaronesian group of islands of the North Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago is located at 160 miles south-south-east of Madeira and 90 miles north of Tenerife (Canary Islands). The distance between the largest islands (Greater Selvagem and Lesser Selvagem) is 10 nautical miles. The area of the islands is 2.73 square kilometers. The islands are surrounded by dangerous reefs.
The area of the islands and the surrounding sea area is a Nature Reserve and requires permission from the Madeira government to visit.
