Porto Santo (Ilha de Porto Santo) is the second inhabited island of the Madeira archipelago. Porto Santo is located 25 miles to north-east of the island of Madeira. The island's main town, Vila Baleira, is located on the south coast. One mile to east of Vila Baleira is the island's seaport. Near Vila Baleira, there is an international airport with charter flights from a number of European countries and daily flights from Madeira. Porto Santo is connected to Madeira by a ferry service.
Porto Santo is known primarily for its magnificent sandy beaches, which attract tourists. There are several hiking routes around the island that include viewpoints with great views.
Porto Santo Island has a small marina. There are no natural shelters on the island, but in calm weather yachts can have anchorfge in a few points off the southern coast and also at the small island Cima (Ilheu de Cima), located off the south-eastern tip of Porto Santo.
