Santiago Island

Santiago Island (Ilha de Santiago) is the largest Cape Verde archipelago in size and population, located 15 miles west of Maio and 30 miles west of Fogo Island. In the south of the island is Praia, the capital of the island and all of Cape Verde.

The island, despite its large size, has only two anchorages suitable for yachts - Praia in the south and Tarrafal in the north.

Santiago is of volcanic origin. The island's highest point is the double-headed peak of Sant'Antonio (1392 m).

Santiago is often called the "island of treasures", as its waters are full of wrecks. Some of them are of interest to divers, others are a danger to yachtsmen.
