Mazara del Vallo

Mazara del Vallo is a commercial port located at the estuary of the Mazaro River, about 16 miles south-east of Marsala and 35 miles north-west of Sciacca in Sicily. It is one of the busiest fishing harbors in Italy. Mazara del Vallo is the nearest harbor to the Tunisian coast 95 miles away.

The town gained international fame when an ancient bronze statue called the Dancing Satyr, supposedly created by the famous Greek sculptor Praxiteles, was raised from the seabed near the town by a local fishing boat. Nowadays, the statue is the centerpiece of a special museum in the town.

The harbor is usually filled with fishing boats, but a yacht can find a berth on the pontoons operated by Associazione Diportisti Nautici Mazarese and Italy's Lega Navale, located at the harbor's west breakwater.
