Licata, formerly also Alicata, is a town and municipality located on the south-western coast of Sicily, at the mouth of the Salso River, about halfway between Agrigento and Gela. Licata is a major seaport, built at the turn of the twentieth century for the transportation of sulphur, the processing of which made Licata a major European trading center.
The history of Licata dates back more than 2000 years. Many archaeological and historical-cultural monuments of different epochs have been preserved in the city until today.
Licata is home to one of the best yachting marinas in Sicily, Marina Cala del Sole.
