The Pelagie Islands (Isole Pelagie) are the southernmost archipelago of Italy, located between Malta and Tunisia. The archipelago consists of three volcanic islands: Lampedusa, Linosa and the uninhabited Lampione. Geographically, the archipelago belongs to Africa. From the point of view of yacht travel, it is logical to include the island of Pantelleria into Pelagian archipelago.
Most of all three islands and their surrounding waters are part of the Pelagos Islands Marine Reserve. Visiting these areas by yacht requires a permit from the reserve's administration. However, the main anchorages on Lampedusa and Linosa can be visited without restrictions.
The Pelagian archipelago is interesting for yachtsmen who want to take a charter yacht on a route with rather long passages (up to a day) on the open sea.
There are no special sights on the islands of the archipelago, except maybe magnificent beaches.
For traveling to the islands of the Pelagian archipelago, it is most convenient to charter a yacht either on Malta or on the west of Sicily in Trapani or Marsala.
