Bisevo Island

The small island of Bisevo (Otok Bisevo) is located 2.3 miles south-west of Vis Island. The island has a rugged coastline with many small bays suitable for yacht anchorages. There are many caves in the rocky shores of the island, the most famous of which is the Blue Grotto.

The island is also famous for Benedictine monastery, which was founded in Bisevo in 1050 by Ivan Grlic from Split, but after two centuries it was abandoned because of the danger of pirate raids. Near the ruins of the monastery, the church of St. Sylvester is preserved.
