Livorno is located in the eastern part of the Ligurian Sea in a natural bay, a few miles south of the estuary of the Arno River, surrounded by the low Livorno Hills.
Livorno was first mentioned in 1017 as a fishing village with a few houses. Today's Livorno is a large industrial city, the largest port in Tuscany, the center of Italian shipbuilding. In the early 20th century, the city was known for the Orlando shipyards.
Livorno is connected by ferry with many cities on the coast and the islands of Elba, Corsica, Sardinia and others.
During the Second World War the city was hard damaged by bombing, but it was gradually rebuilt and many architectural monuments were restored. There are many festivals held in Livorno every year.
In Livorno there is the Livorno Yacht Marina, where you can keep your yacht while visiting the famous Pisa.
