Ventotene is an Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, one of the islands of the Ponzian archipelago. The closest islands to Ventotene are Ischia, 20 miles east-south-east, and Ponza, 22 miles west-north-west. The island of Ventotene is of volcanic origin. Ventotene can be translated from Italian as “windy” or “blown by the winds”.
The island's main and only town, Porto Vecchio, is located in the north of the island. This ancient Roman harbor in the cliffs makes a lasting impression. Next to Porto Vecchio is a new harbor, Porto Nuovo.
Yacht travelers can find a mooring place in both Porto Vecchio and Porto Nuovo.
A mile east of Ventotene is located a former prison island of Santo Stefano. There is nowhere to anchor a yacht there.
The best place to charter a yacht for a trip to Ventotene Island is Nettuno, where several charter companies offering yachts for rent are based. You can also rent a yacht in Naples and Salerno, but there are far fewer yachts available for charter than in Nettuno.
