Ponza is the largest of the islands in the Ponzian archipelago. Ponza Island is located 18 miles from the Italian mainland and 35 miles south of Anzio and Nettuno. The origin of the island is due to volcanic activity. The administrative center and ferry port of the island is the town of Ponza, located on a large natural bay at the southern end of the island's east coast.
Ponza is one of the most spectacular small Italian islands. The ancient colonizers of the island include the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans. All of them have left their imprint on the island. Ponza was a popular resort for Roman emperors who built magnificent villas on the island, and then became a place of exile for those who offended the imperial regime.
Today, the island is a very popular tourist destination as well as a center of attraction for cruising yachts. There is a yacht marina in the town of Ponza. Despite the installation of several additional pontoons for yachts, during the peak season there is not enough space and yachts have to anchor.
The shores of the island are quite rugged with many natural bays suitable for comfortable anchorage of yachts.
The best place to rent a charter yacht for a trip to the Ponza Islands is Nettuno, but you can also rent a yacht in Naples and Salerno.
