Porto Empedocle is the harbor of the large industrial city of Agrigento on Sicily. As you would expect from a large commercial port, the harbor is noisy and not particularly clean. However, the inner harbor has good depths and is safe in all weathers. Porto Empedocle is also the closest harbor to the World Heritage-listed Agrigentum. It is named after the Greek philosopher and poet Empedocles, the most famous inhabitant of the ancient city in the 5th century BC.
