Marsala is a town located on the west coast of Sicily, 15 miles south of Trapani. The modern name probably derives from the Arabic marsā ʿaliyy, "harbor of Ali," or marsā llāh, "harbor of God." Marsala is famous for its Marsala wine.
The closest airport to Marsala is Palermo International Airport, 104 km away. You can get from Palermo Airport to Marsala either by car or by train, but with a connection in Trapani.
To the north of Marsala is located La Riserva dello Stagnone Marsala, a shallow lagoon inhabited by many different species of birds and a spawning ground for many species of fish. The lagoon stretches from Marsala to the north to Trapani. Marsala is of undoubted interest for lovers of historical and architectural values.
Marsala is home to the Nautico Polaris marina, where charter companies to offered bareboat sailing yachts for rent are based. The marina also provides winter mooring and repair services for yachts.
