The south-west coast of Sicily stretches from Trapani on the north-west of the island to Porto Palo on the south-east. The length of the coastline of the south-west coast of Sicily is about 160 nautical miles. The coastline is smooth, there are almost no enclosed bays. However, the number of yacht marinas and fishports is enough to travel by yacht along the coast without overnight crossings. In the north-western part, the sea is shallow with many shoals, especially between the coast from Trapani to Marsala and the Egadi Islands, the nearest of which, Favignana, is located only four and a bit miles from the coast of Sicily.

On the south-west coast of Sicily there are several towns - Trapani, Marsala, Mazzara, Sciacca, Licata, Gela, a number of marinas and fishports.

Relatively close from the southern tip of Sicily to Malta (Valletta). It is only 50 nautical miles. So, traveling on rented yachts it is quite realistic to visit both the south of Sicily and Malta in one or two weeks.
