The town of Pakostane is located on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, about four miles south-east of Biograd opposite the south-eastern tip of Pasman Island. Just a mile from the town is the huge Vransko Jezero, Nature Reserve (Lake Vrana).
The town has a small harbor that is shallow and unsuitable for most sailing yachts, while motor yachts with up to a meter draft can be moored in the harbor. There are a couple of nice anchorages between the three islets near the town. Anchorages can be used only in calm weather and are unsuitable for strong westerly or southerly winds.
You can approach to Pakostane either from the north-west, along the channel separating the mainland from the islands of Ugljan and Pashman, or from the southern tip of Pashman Island. When approaching from the north-west, there are no dangers other than the numerous islands in the Pasman Channel.
When approaching from the south there are numerous rocky islets, some with shoals near them, so the skipper of the yacht needs to be careful. On approach, three islets near the town are clearly visible. The largest, the central one, has a cross on top.
The best anchorages are on either side of the central island. Shelter here is average in northerly winds and poor in north-westerly to southerly winds. In strong winds from the last direction the anchorage is unsuitable.
You can be anchored north-west of the central island at a depth of 5.0-6.0 m. Holdind is good on the sand.
Alternatively, a boat with small draft can anchor to the east of the central island at 2.5-3.0 meters depth, also on the sand.
