Winds in Seychelles

The Seychelles is located away from cyclones, making it a favorable and safe place to visit all year round.

The best periods to stay in Seychelles are the months between the dry and wet seasons i.e. May and October. Light winds, quick rains, calm ocean, pleasant warmth. In addition at the May millions of birds congregate on Bird Island and Cousin Island.

From June through October the southeast wind blows, generated by the Indian summer monsoon. Rainfall is less frequent during this time, relative humidity is lower, and the sea is rough, wind strength rarely exceeds 6 Bofort. Temperatures reach 25 C during this dry season. July and August are the driest.

From December to April during the wet season northwest monsoon winds prevail bringing rain to the islands. The relative humidity rises, the temperature rises to 30 C. The rainiest month of this period is January. Rain falls mainly in the mountainous part of Mahe, Praslin and Silhouette. Rains do occur, sometimes heavy, but always short. Average annual humidity in Seychelles 80%.
