Pantelleria is a small volcanic island in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and Tunisia (38 miles to Tunisia, 53 miles to Sicily). Administratively Pantelleria is attached to the Sicilian province of Trapani.
The island is connected by ferry with Sicily (Trapani). There is a local airport on Pantelleria, from which airplanes fly all year round to Trapani, and from May to September to the mainland - to Rome, Milan, Venice, Verona, Turin, Trapani, etc.
The history of Pantelleria goes back centuries - the first evidence of human habitation is found in layers 35 thousand years old.
A large part of the interior areas of the island is included in the Pantelleria Island National Park with a rich and diverse flora and fauna.
The main port of the island is Porto Vecchio, located in the north of Pantelleria. The second port of Scauri (Porto di Scauri) is located in the middle of the west coast of the island.
The island of Pantelleria can even be visited by charter yacht, rented in Trapani or Marsala on Sicily.
