Amalfi is a seaside town on the Gulf of Salerno in the Italian province of Salerno, 8 miles west-south-west of Salerno. Amalfi is believed to have been founded in the 4th century by Constantine Great. The town is located on the side of a cliff, so that the houses are connected to each other by rock-cut staircases, while the roofs are used as gardens.
Amalfi is one of the most beautiful towns in the Italian Mediterranean, a famous tourist center and the capital of the once mighty Amalfi Republic.
The port of Amalfi has several pontoons and piers where yachts can be moored, as well as a good anchorage to the east of the port.
